If someone wanted to establish a website, is it necessary to find a webhost?if so, what does a web h

Yes, you have to have one(sort of, see below) The webhost is the place online where your website is stored, when someone wants to view your site their computer contacts the webhost%26#039;s computer, which gives them back the pages and pictures and things that make up your website.

If you%26#039;re computer is always connected to the internet then it%26#039;s possible to host your own site (i.e. be the webhost yourself), the problems with this are:

1. Everyone who visits your site will be using your internet connection to do so, which will affect how fast you yourself can use it to surf and things

2. Most peoples home connections have a much higher Download speed than Upload speed. When someone downloads from you, you upload to them, so having a slow upload speed can make your site very unresponsive.

3. Your Internet Provider has probably given you a dynamic (i.e. Changing) IP address, this IP address is your address on the internet, obviously if it keeps changing this going to make it harder for people to find your website online, though there are services around that can help you get round the problem.

4. Finally, you need to actually have the technical know-how to set up all the software and network settings to actually make the web server run (Web Server is the name of the program that actually hosts ther site for you and makes sure other people across the world can see it), which isn%26#039;t THAT difficult but given the nature of your question might be a bit of a jump in at the deep end...

it will get 2 no everythin about the web %26#039;n%26#039; it will only download things in2 it.

A Web host is where your site is saved on the Web. Where people access it from...

eg. http://made2own.com/

Other Replys:There are a few ways to do this.

1) Host the site on your local computer provided you have web sharing.

2) Find a web hosting company like the one I use at http://serverdisk.com .

Why? Because hosting is cheap, they do all the work for you, and most internet providers will not allow you to host your own web server using there internet connection.

Other Replys:Yes, you need a company to :host: your site. And you normally have to pay for it. I use Godaddy.com which is pretty EZ and competitively priced. Be careful to avoid all the extra charges for stuff you don%26#039;t need.

Other Replys:If I%26#039;m understanding your question right, then there are plenty of free places to host a website. First off, a web host is a web server eg. a visible location on the Internet which is maintained by a company/individual. When you type www.yahoo.com into your web browser i.e. Firefox, you%26#039;re essentially telling firefox to connect to a web server at the following address www.yahoo.com. (The workings of web addresses and IP addresses is outwith this particular question but feel free to post again if interested.) So onto how a web host can be used by you.....well when you sign up for free space either from your ISP or a free webhost on the net, they assign you a certain amount of free webspace which you can then upload your website (eg. collection of HTML pages, images, files etc.) to.....you will then be able to access your website at an address which may look something like this: www.freewebhost.com/mywebsite

Hope this helps, feel free to post back for more info/clarification.

Regards.
