I often have problems with my setup. My main problem is serving http (my ftp seems to work fine). I had no problems when I was using a program called Simple Server. Now that program doesn%26#039;t work either.
I also use a program called Dynsite to redirect my dynamic ip to a DNS name. I use this url to access Remote desktop and even works fine when the firewall is setup for it.
I am now trying to run the open source XAMPP server package and again no problem with FTP but no joy with HTTP :(
The files say they are being served but they are only accessable using my LAN. When my friends try to access the pages over the internet then nothing happens
Is it ntl (my isp) doing something to block the external internet?
Or is it configuration of the apache web sever?
Or is it some other crazy thing (i%26#039;m pretty sure its not my firewall) that i have not considered?
My Setup/Software:
PC - Windows XP Pro - XAMAMP Server - Dynsite - Netguard (ntl) - Zone Alarm (free edition)
Does anyone host personal web servers and use dynamic IP with providers such as ntl?
Hi..
I just gone through your setup...
Well i would like to recommend few changes, if you dont mind!
Shift to a powerful free server as Abyss Webserver: http://www.aprelium.com/
And for the Dynamic DNS option, i would recommend, using DynDNS Software...its more sophisticated %26amp; powerful mapping your dynamic IP changes to your local server!
Check: http://www.dyndns.com/services/dns/dyndn...
Regarding your HTTP request not served.. i would recommend you to run your server other than port 80..the common HTTP serving port!
This happens because many ISP%26#039;s block these port from serving the content..
So run your server on any other arbitary port number like 5581
While, in the dynamic server mapping...give same port number!
So, you can access your site locally as: http://localhost:5581
Try it.. i am sure you can get it working around!
Best of Luck..

does it work if you disable your firewall?
Other Replys:try to aybass download program it gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo...
Other Replys:What http port are you using? 80?
Did you try changing to 8080 or 81?
I%26#039;ve dynamic ip and my provider block INCOMING traffic on the 80%26#039;s port. So I have to use 81 or 8080.
Try to change this.
Then, when trying to access your server, use: http://serveraddress:81 (or 8080)
